Sevacare has scooped a top national award at this year’s social care ‘Oscars’.

The Midlands-based Domiciliary Care provider won the Care Employer Award at the Great British Home Care Awards. Against the glittering backdrop of London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Sevacare were presented with the award by television personality Jane McDonald. The Great British Home Care Awards were contested by the winners of the nine regional Great British Care Awards ceremonies, held in Autumn 2011.

Sevacare became national champion in the Care Employer category for providers with more than 250 employees.

The judges said of Sevacare: “This team represented a cross section of staff and showed the passion of the company. The managers focused on care quality are empowered to innovate by developing local ways to support and enhance the personal care available. They also have an exceptional approach to equality governance through direct contact with core staff.”

Sevacare is one of the fastest-growing social care providers in the country, providing some 65,000 hours of person-centred care to over 6,000 people with varying needs in their own homes. It has grown into a major force in homecare, employing more than 3,500 people at 35 branches and its head office in Wolverhampton. Branches are spread across the North East, North West, Yorkshire, East & West Midlands, South East and London areas.

The award was accepted by Chief Executive, Roger Booker, who said afterwards: “This is a tremendous accolade for Sevacare and we are extremely pleased and honoured to receive it.The award gives us recognition as an employer and this is particularly gratifying as we believe that our success is based upon looking after and developing our staff as we look to provide the best care we can for our clients.”

Sevacare Chairman and founder Ravi Bains added: “I am absolutely delighted that Sevacare has been recognised in this way and it is a tribute to Roger and the rest of the team for the way they shape the organisation and motivate our staff to deliver their best.”

The sixteen award categories at the Great British Home Care Awards represent all areas of the care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, from frontline staff, such as care workers and care managers, to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training, innovation and specialist care in areas such as dementia. The ceremony included a champagne reception, dinner and entertainment throughout. The awards were presented by Loose Women host Jane McDonald and the evening concluded with music from a live band and dancing into the night.

Lisa Carr, Director of the Great British Care Awards said: “This is just the third year we have held the national finals and we have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm from our industry. The quality of the finalists from across the country and throughout the sector is extremely high and the judges have had the unenviable task of choosing an overall winner for each category, making Sevacare a true national champion. The awards offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the successes of individuals, teams and businesses throughout the UK - people who really do make a positive impact on people’s lives. During these testing economic times, social care has once again suffered the impact of associated adversity. The awards are a positive way of raising motivation within our social care workforce and indeed the profile of the sector as a whole. The evening has been truly exhilarating; everyone here tonight is a winner."
