Roger Booker Joins Sevacare as new Chief Executive

Sevacare may have pulled off the homecare business coup of the year by appointing Roger Booker as its new Chief Executive in January. An experienced Executive with second-to-none knowledge of the domiciliary care business, Roger has a Chartered Accountancy background and has been a key player in the transformation of the sector as it has moved from public to private sector provision over the last 15 years.Roger Booker

 

Taking responsibility for Care UK plc’s domiciliary care business in 1996, Roger developed it from a 5,000 hours a week, £3 million turnover operation in Essex to become the third largest national provider, with a turnover of £77 million, delivering 125,000 hours a week from 55 locations and employing over 4,000 people by 2008. Expansion was achieved via a combination of organic growth, successful bidding for Local Authority contracts and over 20 selective acquisitions successfully integrated into the business structure. Profitability during this period grew to over £5 million at operating profit level.

 

As a former member of Care UK’s Executive team, Roger has a number of years’ experience of formulating strategy, not only in domiciliary care, but also in the wider social care field (including older people residential, learning disabilities and mental health) and newly-privatised healthcare services. Between 2002 and 2004 Roger also had executive responsibility for the Company’s £17 million turnover Supported Living service for people with Learning Disabilities.

 

Roger brings to Sevacare a number of key skills required to successfully develop Social Care business in the UK:

  • Understanding the needs of service users and Local Authority customers within the context of political, regulatory and budgetary constraints;
  • Successfully bidding for 3-10 year public sector service contracts under competitive tendering conditions;
  • Acquiring and integrating good quality local businesses with potential for expansion under a corporate banner;
  • Positioning the business to focus on service evolution as the Government’s Personalisation policies for Social Care services impact over the next 3 years.
